We start our kayaking trip from the western lower branches of the Kymijoki River, in the heart of the idyllic Strömfors ironwork. We paddle along the beautiful Kymijoki River and visit the Saarela nature reserve. On the way, we stop for a coffee and snack in Hattarniemi. On the way you will sense the silence, the movement of the water and the rich local nature and its polyphonic soundscape. Throughout the trip, our experienced guide will be with you, offering guidance and advice. Come with us and experience the joy of being on the water and feel the closeness and peace of nature.
Program Highlights:
- A genuine kayaking experience: the western branches of the Kymijoki River offer a natural and peaceful experience of nature, watching the birds nesting on the banks and the lush, green vegetation. The kayaking route has gentle currents and takes the paddler through varied nature, including the lush Saarela nature reserve. There is a choice of well-paddled kayaks and canoes for two or even ten people.
- Season: Experience nature waking up on a summer morning
- Stories, history: The guide tells the interesting story of the river, how the river once divided the Swedish and Russian empires and the importance of the river to the timber industry.
- Bird life: The Kymijoki River has a diverse bird life, including grey herons, which thrive in the area.

Please note: A minimum of 3 participants is required to complete a canoe trip. If the number of participants is not met, the programme organiser has the right to cancel the departure, in which case your money will be refunded or you can alternatively participate in another departure.

Even though the Hattarniemi wilderness site is just a 55 minutes paddling distance away from Strömfors, in the peace of nature at the side of the Hattarniemi pike perch fishing spot, in a place that has that certain nature adventure feeling, you are not completely at the mercy of nature - the tent is set up for you, there are toilet papers in the dry toilet, firewoods and a fire place, some fishing gear and camping cooking gear.
To stay in Hattarniemi after the end of the excursion, the transfer is either by canoe or by hiking. When booking the canoe trip, please indicate in the details field if you also wish to stay overnight in Hattarniemi. The difference between the price of the paddling programme and the accommodation will be charged separately before the programme takes place.
