Guided Departures available in Strömfors Ironworks every Sunday
The River Kymijoki flows in its calm course around Strömfors Ironworks The canoeing routes in the area are easy and lushly beautiful. The river has a strong population of grey herons and there is very little, if any, motorboat traffic due to the adjacent protected areas.
The route is always a bit wind-sensitive meaning sometimes we go to the Hattariemi wilderness area for a break, sometimes do the Paaskoski circular route, or head straight to the Saarela reserve, and sometimes paddle from Strömfors to another old ironworks called Stockfors.
Sunday paddling is a great way to keep the pace relaxed, enjoy the surrounding nature and take a break from the hustle and bustle, recharging your batteries for the week ahead. The guided Strömfors Sunday paddling sessions last around 3 hours and include all the equipment you need, plus a guide if needed - so you'll need a water bottle, weatherproof equipment and sunscreen.
After the Stömfors Sunday paddling, a special yurt sauna is heated, and the sauna fee is only 20€ per person for those who have participated in the guided paddling tour.
